Steffensen / Boger
Drøbak Art Association
21 April – 7 May 2023
The exhibition focused on the meeting between two different visual expressions and a dialogue between two different artistry. Jorunn Steffensen and Runa Boger work individually within a joint project where abstraction and colors are central. Their visual language is very different and they work with different materials and methods. Steffensen works with painting and drawing. Boger works with textile collage and fabric printing.
Jorunn Steffensen’s project is a continuous investigation, deepening and processing of her own visual expression. Steffensen is concerned with the energy of color and the slow build-up, layer upon layer, layer by layer. She seeks deepening in color and composition and often works in series with different issues. It is the composition and the sum of the inner tension that finds its expression and gives the work of art content.
Runa Boger works with material-based art – textile collages. The work with abstract images takes place based on a textile tradition where formal investigations of color and geometric shapes are supporting elements. Boger is concerned with reuse and recycling and often uses wool in combination with vegetable fibres. The organic and naturally unstable and the energy the material adds to the work are important.
The exhibition was mounted as a site-specific installation where color and surface were supporting elements. The gallery’s spatial architecture, opportunities and challenges set the framework for the design of the exhibition.
